Want To Exhibit At Artwalk?
Artwalk is Wakefield's bi-monthly evening celebrating art, performance, music, heritage and socialising, and usually takes place on the final Wednesday of every other month. The next Artwalk is on Wednesday 27th November 2024.
If you want to exhibit your art or hold your event at Artwalk, here's a handy guide to what you need to do.
1. Find a venue
Wakefield has a variety of suitable venues and exhibition spaces - you can find a big list of previous Artwalk venues in our venue guide which may give you some ideas, or you could find another central Wakefield venue or space to host your work.
Artwalk events must be free to enter and attend, although there can be age restrictions, requirements for (free) advance tickets to limit number of attendees and keep under venue capacity, or accept voluntary donations.
If you don't have a venue and need our help in finding somewhere, please click here to get in touch with the team and tell us about your art or event. We'll do our best to pair you up with a suitable space.
I need help in finding a venue
Some venues have monthly/bi-monthly rolling exhibitions which run outside Artwalk so you may wish to factor that into your choices.
Please don't list yourself with a venue without getting full confirmation from the venue or Artwalk team.
2. Send in your details
Once you have a confirmed venue, send us your listing. Please provide an exhibition title, artist attribution, a short bio/details, opening times and (if you have one) an image we can use.
We'll also ask you to agree to a few Responsible Artist principles, which include not damaging venue fixtures, tidy up and leave a venue as you found it, help promote your bit of the Artwalk, and keep to our code of conduct.
I have a confirmed venue - add my listing
Listings go live around three weeks prior to the Artwalk date and the printed map cut-off is around 10 days prior.
3. Promote yourself!
When we've got back to you confirming your listing, you're good to go! Shout it from the rooftops, tell everyone!
We have an Artwalk logo you can use (download it here) which is free to use and vary as long as it remains in the spirit of Artwalk - such as on posters, social media promos, everything.
Then on Artwalk night itself...
We've found there's a much better response from visitors who know about the artist and can talk to them, so we'd really recommend that you come along on Artwalk night itself to meet people.
Other things which help a lot include flyers to give your visitors, and small cards next to your art showing piece title, artist, price (if applicable) and any other details you might feel relevant.
Ideally you'd be there half an hour before exhibition opening time as there are usually some early Artwalkers. Things tend to calm down past 8pm (which is why some venues close around this time) but in general Artwalk continues to 9pm - and beyond in some licenced venues. Your venue will be able to help you work out what's best.
