Emily Ryalls
The Art House presents Divine Archives, the first solo exhibition by Wakefield-based artist Emily Ryalls. Through photography, performance and sculpture, her practice centres on women’s embodied knowledge and the ways we understand the world through our bodies. This project expands the idea of women’s bodies as an archive, offering a feminist roadmap for how such knowledge can be cared for, shared and preserved.

Twitch
Laura Alice
Twitch brings together a collection of prints, paintings and illustrations by West Yorkshire-based creative, Laura Alice.
Laura’s lifelong love of birds were sown here in Wakefield when her parents would take her on nature walks, and feed birds together. She remembers receiving a beautifully illustrated bird book for her birthday at around seven years old, and while her childhood was often troubled, these moments stood out as ones of safety and comfort – memories that became especially precious. This shared love of nature brought her family together and these memories are what have inspired the development of Twitch.
Birds and nature remain vital to her wellbeing and creative practice as an adult, and revisiting these early connections back at The Art House, that was home to her first studio 17 years ago, has inspired this new collection of work.

Permanence in The Distillery Bar
Jenny Hutchinson Artist
The artwork series "Permanence" is part of the Reverence of Nature collection by Jenny Hutchinson Artist.
Permanence looks at the fragility of life and celebrates this in a delicate study of shape, form and texture. Each elemental piece is created using plaster. They are then carefully trimmed, hand painted and arranged to form the unique compositions housed within the box canvases. The use of gold and copper leaf enhance the majesty of the natural elements.
Jenny Hutchinson Artist is a multi-disciplined artist based in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. After graduating from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, with a First Class Honours Degree in Theatrical Design For Performance, she returned to her birthplace of Wakefield and set up her own Art and Design business.
Jenny specialises in hand painting to a high degree of both detail and accuracy. Her work includes Fine Art, Custom Airbrushed Artwork and Large Scale Murals.
Jenny says: “I love to focus on nature and the natural world in my fine artwork and murals. I like studying the shape, form and texture of natural elements and I believe they are truly worthy of recognition and celebration for their inherent beauty. My work can draw together images and components of animals and plants and play with scale to produce highly detailed smaller pieces or immersive larger murals.”
Open 5pm-9pm

My Angel, Amanda
Neil Oates
I am a strong believer in faith and in the idea that we all have a purpose. My life has been a personal journey that has required strength and resilience. I am a compassionate man who always strives to give his best, and I believe my true purpose is to treat everyone I meet with kindness and love.
My art comes from deep within my spirit. Painting consumes me, and my love of nature was the spark that first inspired my creativity. I began with a simple maple leaf, followed by the angel from Wakefield Hospice, then birds, animals, and eventually my Amanda. Each piece, and many others, has helped me process and express my grief.
The mediums that I work with are acrylic paint, coloured pencils, marker pens, and enamel paint.
Open 5pm-8pm

Are We Safe Now?
Catherine Miller
Catherine Miller is an artist-teacher who recently completed an MA at Oxford Brookes University. She examines how her lived experience of maternal loss and childhood trauma impacts her artwork. This personal journey examines the stages of grief and their influence on identity and perspective. Through this work, she is discovering that conscious and subconscious decisions drive her creative process, leading to a sense of empowerment and healing, hopefully for both her and the viewer.
Are We Safe Now?
This body of work explores childhood trauma and maternal loss, utilising the natural dyeing process alongside locally sourced natural fibres. To clarify the conceptual background, themes of protection, nature, and nurture are emphasised, evoking maternal instincts and highlighting the tension between them. It reflects on possibilities that could have been, contrasting them with the stark realities of maternal trauma to deepen understanding of the work's themes.
Studio A4 "The Big Room"
Open 5pm-9pm
JULE
Julie Yarrow
After years of constraints in a more ‘graphic' period of my life, I have discovered the joy of letting go with my art.
This might be capturing a roadside Passion Flower, a stroll along the canal to discover random Water Lillies or a Little Beauty miniature tulip in my garden. Painted with some precision but loving the uninhibited colour mixing, the natural contours and lack of rules. This is true when painting landscapes or buildings too, although I find myself slipping back into enjoying neat angles and straight(ish) lines when drawing rooftops and windows.
I also enjoy paper crafting and will have some 3D origami ‘Bascetta’ stars on show (A stellated polyhedron designed by mathematician Paolo Bascetta), along with some hand printed/painted hand made note books.
Studio A4 "The Big Room"
