CoActive Arts

CoActive Arts present work by two of our artists David Hartley and Scott Douglas. David is a founding member of the group, regularly attending for 20 years; this exhibition brings his work together with Scott, a more recent member who shares his interest in local history.

David's paintings explore his experience of a recent cataracts operation, reflecting on similar motifs from earlier work as well as links to natural phenomenon like the solar eclipse and volcanic eruptions with an 'explosion of darkness with light around the edges'.

Scott presents some drawings and paintings of the Chantry Chapel in his unique style combining image and narrative text.

Iceland In Colour
Martin Lewis

Creating abstract paintings inspired by the extraordinary beauty of Iceland, Martin Lewis seeks to uncover the underlying geometry of landscape through the use of simple shapes and line and exaggerated or altered colour. He paints mainly in oil, sometimes mixing it with sand to enhance texture, and often applied thickly with palette knife.

Open 5pm-9pm

Mike Wood

After studying art at Goldsmiths, London University, I went on to pursue a career in education. Since retiring from the teaching profession I now have time to indulge my passion for painting which I do most days in my studio at home.
I mostly work in oils and my subjects are varied but I have recently focused on local landscapes close to home in West Yorkshire. I also produce small oil paintings of wildlife and still life subjects which I sell at local craft fairs.

My painting style is probably best described as contemporary realism and my paintings are straightforward representations of subjects that appeal to me. I want the viewer to instantly recognise and understand the subject chosen, but without me having to include every detail which I feel can look fussy and overworked. In this way I strive to create interesting and appealing paintings that make full use of the qualities of oil paint.

Linda Bulleyment

Making animals sparks joy, I love how expressive clay can be in creating these sculptures. As each animal grows, they reveal their own developing personalities. Exploring the nuances of expression, texture and form adds to the piece’s individuality. I make a range of animals capturing the essence of each creature either through sculpture, or as part of a jar. Painted animals may form part of the decoration of flatware where the surface becomes the canvas. Glazes are often layered to cause interaction on the surface or allowed to pool in the details of the form.
